Sarah Winckless (double World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist) smashed her target of raising £10,000 in just 10 days by racing for the first time at HWR in aid of the Huntingdon’s Disease Association.
Ten days in, Sarah, who retired from the British national rowing squad this spring, and her fellow fundraiser Victoria Wood had already raised £24,000 in donations.
With £10,000 achieved in one donation alone from Pharos Offshore Group, Sarah will be racing at HWR with retired 'veteran oarswoman' Victoria in a last-minute entry for The W Peer Cup elite double sculls. Says Sarah: “Rowing to win funding for Huntingdon’s is a whole new motivation, and we knew that the sorority of the HWR would make £10,000 in 10 days possible, but £24,000 is absolutely amazing, and we know the longer we stay in the event, the more money we will raise.”
Huntingdon’s Disease is a cause close to Sarah’s heart, with her mother a Huntingdon’s sufferer and Sarah, gene-positive.
